Bristol Design Build Services Wins AIA 2009 Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture
A Bristol-led design-build project at Eielson Air Force Base has been awarded a 2009 Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Alaska. The award recognizes work performed on the Eielson Air Force Base Chapel Center, in Fairbanks. The AIA Alaska chapter presented the award to Bristol Design Build Services, LLC, September 19, at its regional conference in Anchorage
Bristol Design Build was contracted to design and build the chapel to serve all religious denominations of military personnel and their families at Eielson Air Force Base. The chapel consolidates religious services, administration, counseling, and religious education into one facility. Also recognized for their work on the project was KPB architects.
The award was presented at Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage during the AIA Northwest & Pacific Region Annual Conference. The Northwest & Pacific Region is the largest and most diverse of all the AIA regions; it includes Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Hong Kong and Japan.
“This year’s winners are a wide-ranging group that not only surpasses the prerequisites but raises the bar for architectural standards,” according to the AIA Alaska website. Participants can win an “Honor Award,” an “Award of Merit,” and a “Citation Award.” The goal of the annual awards program is to raise the standards of architectural design excellence by both the architectural community and the public.
The chapel design was also recognized last year with a Pacific Air Forces Design Award in the Concept Design Category.
