Corps awards Bristol $22 million in design-build contracts

Bristol has been awarded two new design-build contracts this spring from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: one for the design and construction of a $12.7 million chapel at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and the other for a $9 million Department of Homeland Security border control station, to be located on the U.S./Canada border, in Sumas, Wash.

Work on the chapel, which will replace the base’s existing main chapel, is expected to begin this summer. “The A/E design work is already proceeding full speed ahead, and we expect to be on-site, in the ground and under construction by early June,” said Bristol senior project manager Jim Stonebraker.  The 28,000-square-foot building will include a multifaith chapel and education facility. Chapel construction is expected to be finished by July 30, 2008.

Bristol’s design and construction team partners for the project include Koonz Pfeffer Bettis Architects, Coffman Engineers and Rolf Jensen Associates (fire protection engineers), and Bristol Environmental & Engineering Services Corp.

Bristol Design Build Services was also awarded a $9 million contract to construct the DHS Border Patrol Station, located at the Canada/U.S. border, in Sumas, Washington.
