Representative Project:
Yuut Eltnaurviat (People’s Learning Center)
Bethel, Alaska

Bristol is the lead engineer and constructor for the Yuut Elitnaurviat (People’s Learning Center), or YE-PLC, in Bethel, Alaska. Once completed, the campus will be a regional hub for students seeking vocational-technical training in the building trades, such as carpentry and construction.

Construction is multi-phased. Phase 1 encompassed site work and installation of steel piling. Bristol site work development on the 10.3-acre site included:

• Developing roads and building sites
• Installing 180 steel pilings
• Designing/building a 4,170-square-foot vocational-technical classroom
• Designed/building a thermal siphon system for the classroom
• Installing overhead site utilities.

Challenges of the project include logistics, weather, and availability of local labor. The chosen site is positioned over “warm” permafrost, which requires more skill to work with than “regular” permafrost.
